The Caravan Safe was designed as a high security, light-weight anti-theft device. The selection of the material was primarily with consideration for impact resistance and overall strength.
NB: Lexan Polycarbonate is extremely heat insulative but it is not officially classified as fire resistant because no official testing has been carried out because the Hide Away Safe Co, the manufacturer, is the only manufacturer in the World to make a High Security Safe from Lexan.
The fire resistant aspect of Lexan Polycarbonate is a bonus to purchaser but not the primary consideration in terms of design or application.
Please Note: In Australia regarding theft versus fire it is in the order of 820 occasions to one. That means there is 1 fire claim (that could be just a minor kitchen stove fire) to every 820 claims of theft. As you can see fire IS NOT really a major concern.
